Most Guitars are Made of Trees by Greg Gibbs

Most Guitars are Made of Trees  by  Greg Gibbs

Most Guitars are Made of Trees - August 12th - Song 18

Most Guitars are Made of Trees - August 12th - Song 18 This song was started in April of 2008. Like I lot of things I do, it was never finished. Thanks to chiding from friends and mrsbrak, I finished another showcase for my ADD.

Ants On The Moon - July 30nd - Song 17

Ants On The Moon - July 30nd - Song 17 One day there will be ants on the moon. I probably wont be around to see it. That's the rumor. I'll probably remix and edit this to make it more lovable. This is it for now.

Tampon For Your Mouth - July 22nd - Song 16

Tampon For Your Mouth - July 22nd - Song 16 I'm a bit behind and playing catch-up. I threw this together a few months ago. The entire song is just two instruments. A turntable and a guitar triggering a vocoder. All of the beats were scratched in from different tracks off of Raincoat. The scratched in guitar is actually from "Raincoat" the song. I think the bass drum is from "Vanilla Coke & Vodka".

Monkey Cage - July 20th - Song 15

I had a lot of fun making this track and trying to make idiotic lyrics sound acceptable. Really sloppy demo, but some good times.

The Nibbler - July 7th - Song 14

I threw this together today. I'm not sure if anyone is really stealing my beats, but I really hope so. Egos can be so fragile. More soon as I'm playing catch-up.

The Lights (Gryllidaen Rights) - June 30th: Song 13

Crap pile of tracks. I was imagining I was in one of those open air military helicopters - think Platoon. We were flying low over tropical forests in Central America, running drugs for the good guys. I was having en existential moment in all the noise, staring at the sunset, imagining the villages belew. For those of you who know me, seriously that was what was going through my head. Half a bottle of wine.

Music for Mr. Rusty - June 18th

I've been working on this for a couple of weeks. I created and recorded everything in about 25 minutes, but couldn't turn it into a "song". I decided to structure it as a soundtrack for Rusty, the rat eating/chasing cat that lives in the NYC subway system. I have been looking for him all week. Very harsh at times. Tons of guitars, synth track and a subway train.

Blowout - June 9th

June 9th: Song 11 - "Blowout"

Just fiddling around. Tons of jangly guitars and cheap-ass percussion. Hope you likey.

Hillbilly Feet & Spell - June 3rd 2009

June 3rd - Songs 9- "Hillbilly Feet" & Song 10- "Spell". Sorry for the one week gap. Scary Spider had a show last Friday and I had a good friend in town. So here's what I have: "Hillbilly Feet" - an asinine pseudo existential dance track. "Spell" - We actually watched the National Spelling Bee finals one day last week. This song has nothing to do with that. Goofy stuff, but I have no shame. Thanks for listening.

Wasted Plans - May 20th

May 20th - Song 8. The road to hell is paved with good intentions,
that is if you believe in hell.
Oh well.

Target Rats - May 12th

May 12th - Target Rats - Seventh song. Tuesday is my day off. Halfway through my first cup of coffee this morning, someone rang my doorbell. I was still in my underwear. It was the Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation going door to door to check properties for rats, and to bait them with rodenticide. Yes it is a word. It heled me round out a piece I was working on and couldn't find a direction for. I was just looping and layering with a new looper. The Books show 9 days ago was definitely an influence as well, though their pieces are a bit more thoughtfully conceived than I am capable of giving to at this time or state of mind.

I sampled generously from the following youtube videos:

Slow Down - May 5th, 2009

May 5th, 2009 - This is the sixth song I'm written for my song a week project.

Time Capsule - April 28th, 2009

April 28th, 2009 - Fifth song. I was working on quite a bit of different stuff this week. I've been experimenting with a turntable and new software. The turntable song I wrote was about a tampon, and won't see the light of day for some time. This track, however, is more stripped down. I wrote it at 3pm today. I took a cheesy "Gregorian" chant that I made with my own voice and a sampler, and turned it into a delicious emo-cheese concoction. I also played percussion using a red sharpie, my desk and my knee - just like Daniel Doyle likes :) More soon.

Give a Shit - April 21st, 2009

April 21st, 2009 - 4th track. I worked on 3-4 songs last week. I got caught up writing a song about a wooly mammoth and thought I would finish that today. Instead I finished this one. Forgive the insincerity. "Give a Shit" is closer to Arby's than to your heart. My band wants to play this though and has asked me to finish it. It may grow. More soon.

Zoo - April 13th, 2009

April 13th, 2009 - Third song. This was one I started years ago, but never said "Hey I'm done". If you like it, pass it on. If not, there will be another soon. Hopefully you like it too.
Thanks for listening.

Orwellian Soccer Blues - April 8th, 2009

April 8th, 2009 - This is the second track. I've been a bit scatterbrained recently, like since the 80s. This track popped out after I posted the first one. I figured I'd just post them as they are done as long as i average one per week and never really get behind. Orwellian Soccer Blues is, much like Ultrasonic Range and Campus Raygun, simple melody and trying to find a nice harmonic and aesthetic setting. Simple songs.

Ultrasonic Range - April 6th, 2009

April 6th, 2009 - This is the first one. He had planned to write a super simple song, but got a bit indulgent. More soon.
